Microteaching log
Teaching Insights
Online microteaching presented challenges and growth opportunities. Reflecting on peer feedback and lesson recordings, I identified successes and areas for improvement. Virtual teaching differs significantly from in-person instruction.
What Went Well :
One of the aspects that worked well during my online microteaching lesson was the clear structure and pacing of the lesson. I received positive feedback from my peers about how I organized the lesson into manageable parts, which made it easier to follow.
Challenges and How I Addressed Them :
However, teaching in an online environment came with its challenges. One of the main obstacles I encountered was my nervousness teaching online. I overcame this by stopping taking a deep breath and carried on with the lesson.
Meeting Learning Objectives :
Upon reflection, I believe the lesson did meet the learning objectives. The goal was to introduce learners to a specific concept. That said, I think more time could have been allocated for in-depth discussions.
Choosing Appropriate ICT Tools :
I believe I chose appropriate ICT tools for the lesson. I used a slideshow portraying the information and images depicting the content. I also used Kahoot as an interactive tool to assess learner understanding in real-time. This choice was particularly effective as it created a competitive yet fun atmosphere.
Lessons Learned for the Classroom :
From this experience, I learned several things that I can apply to classroom teaching. First, the importance of clear, concise instructions is even more critical in an online setting, but it’s just as valuable in the physical classroom. Second, fostering engagement requires creative strategies—whether online or in-person—and utilizing interactive tools like Kahoot can be just as effective in the classroom.
Incorporating Feedback
Peer feedback played a key role in helping me improve my lesson. One point of feedback was to make better use of visual aids, which I applied by simplifying my slides and ensuring they were visually engaging without being overwhelming.
Conclusion
In conclusion, online microteaching was a valuable experience that taught me how to navigate the challenges of virtual instruction while leveraging technology to enhance learning.
